Cavaliers 94

Bobcats 74

Charlotte, N.C. - If you're getting the feeling that there's never been a run of domination like the Cavaliers are on right now you'd be quite correct.

Another game, another massacre victory at the hands of the Cavs, the latest being a 94-74 drubbing of the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night.

The winning streak is now eight and in each the Cavs have won by at least 12 points, tying an NBA record for consecutive victories by a dozen points or more. One of the teams they now share the mark with is the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, a team that went 72-10.

"If you can get a record by accident, then great," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. "It's not anything I knew was a record, it's just a tribute to the guys."

Though it goes deeper. The Cavs' (17-3) past 11 wins have all been by 11 points or more. The only time in the past 17 games they've lost, it took the Detroit Pistons opening the fourth quarter by making 12 of 13 shots. That was the second night of a back-to-back when foul trouble also played a role. Still, the Cavs had a double-digit lead in that game and have led by at least eight points in every game they've played this season.

As it is, the win over the Bobcats (7-13) gives the Cavs a five-game lead over the Pistons in the Central Division. Surely the team is in an easier portion of the schedule, but the Cavs are thundering through it at historic levels. Almost nightly they alter a portion of the record book.

By Tuesday night - when there's an excellent chance Zydrunas Ilgauskas will get the four rebounds he needs to pass Brad Daugherty for the all-time rebounds record, and LeBron James will get the steal he needs after he tied Mark Price's franchise record of 734 on Saturday - the Cavs may just go ahead and reprint the media guide.

The contest against the Bobcats had some elements of a trap game. The Cavs have been playing well and winning easy but were on the road in a back-to-back against a team in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference.

Yet Charlotte had won four of its past five home games and has the firepower to take advantage if the visitor's energy and focus slip. Six minutes into the game, though, the Cavs were up 12 points, the gas firmly pressed. The Bobcats made just four of their first 21 shots and another rout was on.

"We're not going out there trying to blow everyone out," James said. "We're just getting big leads and keeping them."

For the fifth time in the past two weeks, James wasn't needed in the fourth quarter. He still scored 25 points, had five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 28 minutes.

After holding Danny Granger, who averaged 24 points, to four points Friday, James was the primary defender against Gerald Wallace on Saturday. Wallace came in averaging 16 points, and he managed a single point. Jason Richardson, who has had some huge games against the Cavs recently, was held - by perimeter defenders such as Delonte West - to just nine points.

Ben Wallace blocked three shots and had eight rebounds in 20 minutes. Ilgauskas blocked five shots and grabbed 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. In what had to be the only quasi letdown of the night, Ilgauskas' 32-game streak of scoring in double figures ended when he scored just seven points.

In fact, it was a little bit of an off night offensively for the Cavs. Only two players scored in double figures - Daniel Gibson had another impressive game off the bench with a bombastically efficient 22 points on nine shots - and the team scored just 39 points after halftime.

Because the defense was sharp to the tune of 10 blocks, nine steals and holding Charlotte to 36 percent shooting, 39 points were plenty.

"The guys are focusing on the right things," Brown said. "I'm excited for them because they're making us all look good right now."
