Minnesota Timberwolves sign center to offer sheet 2009-08-04

Minnesota Timberwolves sign center to offer sheet 2009-08-04In an effort to add some height to their undersized front line, the Timberwolves today signed Dallas Mavericks center Ryan Hollins, a 7-foot-0 restricted free agent, to an offer sheet.

The Mavericks have seven days to match, but the Dallas Morning News reported that they are unlikely to do so.

Mavs owner Mark Cuban, in a Twitter post, wrote, "Congrats to Ryan Hollins. wish him the best w twolves."

"We are excited about the opportunity to have Ryan Hollins on our team," Wolves president of Basketball operations David Kahn said in a statement. "He is a lengthy, athletic center, with a lot of upside, who should complement Al (Jefferson) and Kevin (Love) really well. We've had our eye on him the past several weeks and we are optimistic we can acquire him through this process."

Hollins was originally drafted 50th overall in 2006 by the Charlotte Bobcats out of UCLA and was traded to Dallas on Jan. 16, 2009.

In 132 career games with the Bobcats and Mavericks, Hollins has averaged 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field.
