DRAFT PICKS: D.J. Augustin, G, 6-0, Texas -- Undersized, pass-first point guard who'll serve as a contrast to incumbent Raymond Felton.
Alexis Ajinca, C 7-0, French pro -- Raw, long-limbed athlete who figures to be a long-term project inside. Kyle Weaver, G 6-6, Washington State -- Above-average defender at shooting guard who needs to become a better shooter. Traded to Oklahoma City in August for a 2009 second-round pick,.
PLAYER NOTES:
--Keep an eye on Shannon Brown, a minor signing for the Bobcats. He's tried and failed with Cleveland and Chicago, but he has a football player's body, and could be that George Lynch-type player Larry Brown seems to need wherever he goes.
--The most interesting competition in training camp should be Raymond Felton versus D.J. Augustin at point guard. Felton gets the edge on experience, but Augustin played so well in summer league that he'll get plenty of minutes when the regular season starts.
--Rookie center Alexis Ajinca is playing with a knee brace after a sprain in summer league, but he appears to be moving well in scrimmages.
--Gerald Wallace was shopped in the off-season, but he wasn't offended, and seems happy to be a Bobcat for the long haul, should that be the way it plays out.
